Not all animals are out to get us or terrorize our houses. Most come in contact for only shelter or survival reasons and cause no harm. There are plenty of ways in which we try to safeguard our homes from pests and wildlife that have the ability to create problems for us. However, there are also ways we can contribute to the well-being of these animals so there is a safe environment for all.
Separate Space
Perhaps you live in the woods or near where you may cross paths with a lot of animals. A great way to maintain and monitor animals that come through your yard, is to create an area that is specifically for them. If you don’t mind having them around, construct a few setups out of wood, sticks, or other things that they could take shelter in.
Water For Everyone
Animals are constantly looking for shelter and food for them and their families to survive. Instead of pushing them away, create a controlled space where they can access things to survive. Including a birdbath or containers that have water in them so it is readily available.
Does your property include a pond or maybe it is near a body of water? During the winter months, those areas of water are closed off to animals as they freeze over. Consider melting the ice on these so animals can drink from this water.
Extra Food
If animals have food that is available to them, they will be less likely to hunt around your yard and trash bins for food. This will minimize mess and keep your property and yard cleaner. A good idea would be to occasionally set out foods like apples, berries, and nuts that animals will be sure to gravitate towards.
At Shumaker Animal Control, we are a family-owned business who cares about the safety of you and your family but also about the well-being of the wildlife themselves. All of our trapping and control methods are humane, as we never try to hurt the angry or scared animal.
