Christmas is in about 2 weeks and if you don’t have your tree up yet, we know it will be up soon! Part of the fun of getting into the holiday spirit is decorating your home. That may include going out and hunting for the perfect tree to cut down and bring home or pulling out all the Christmas decorations from the attic. And once you are done decorating, you will want to keep it in perfect condition. That might be hard if you have pets in the house, so we have a few tips to full-proof your Christmas tree from your furry family members. Here are our tips on keeping pets away from your Christmas tree.

Pets Away From Christmas Tree

Keep It Stable

A great suggestion for keeping your tree sturdy, is to have a really stable base for it. You can find a basket or container to put the base of the tree in so it doesn’t slide, and it also covers up the tree base. Another option is to situate a tree in a corner or in between furniture so it can’t be knocked over. Wagging tails and animal paws will have a harder time messing with your tree.

Citrus Scented Protection

A not so well known fact is that animals do not really care for citrus type smells. A quick trip to the store can help deter your animals from getting curious about the Christmas tree. There are a lot of products out there that you can use or spray to keep them away. Just be sure that it is one that is safe for animals and you’ll be good to go for the holidays!

Twist Ties

When adding Christmas lights and sentimental ornaments to the tree, you’ll want to make sure that they won’t get knocked off easily. A great way to do that is to use twist ties and latch them to the tree when you are hanging them. This will ensure that they will not move from place, even if a pet makes the ornaments or tree move.

Tinfoil

The sound of tinfoil moving or crumpling drives animals up the wall, they hate it! Laying out a couple of sheets, or including it as part of the base for your tree will definitely help keep them away from it. If they go near it or touch it, they will back away because of the sound it makes.
