Squirrel Prevention Tips

Don’t let squirrels keep infiltrating your home! Be sure to use these animal control tactics!

If you have squirrels in your attic or some other part of your home, prevention may not be as difficult as you think. In most cases, it is actually quite easy. With that said, here are some great squirrel prevention tips for your home!

Inspect Your Home

The first thing you want to do is inspect the exterior or your home for any possible openings that can serve as entry points for the squirrels. If you do home repairs and patch up any existing holes, you will also prevent any more squirrels from entering your home. In the case of squirrel interlopers in other parts of your home, such as your roof or garden, getting rid of them can be more difficult. This includes your roof and all vents. Once you discover how squirrels are entering, you may need to get professional repairs done.

Hot Sauce As Animal Control

If squirrels are chewing on your woodwork or plants, you can actually deter them by making use of hot sauce. You can spray it on or use a paintbrush. However, not just any old hot sauce will do. It needs to be scorchingly hot.

Seal Shut All Open Holes

Find all of the squirrel holes and make them unbreachable. There are a few ways you can do this. One common way is to place heavy steel mesh over any open hole, as squirrels cannot penetrate them. If you have open holes or ones covered with flimsy screen, be sure to take care of it.

Animal Control Realities

While keeping squirrels away from your entire property and land is generally impossible, keeping them out of your home’s interior is easy. While complete removal outdoors is impossible, there are a lot of things you can do to discourage them from setting up shop on your land and being a nuisance. Keeping your property clean, any holes sealed up, and focusing on wood piles are key when it comes to overall prevention. You can also make use of specific fencing on small areas which you want to keep free of squirrels.
