What You Need To Know About Racoons

Raccoons are nocturnal creatures, so your best chance of spotting one is at night.

Do you have a raccoon problem in your yard? These pesky critters can wreak havoc in your yard if you left them. Not only are they known for getting into trash cans and stealing vegetables, but they are also a hazard if you have pets or young children. It is in your best interest to take the necessary steps to keep them off your property. Here are a few important things you should know about raccoons in order to keep them away!

Signs Of Racoon Activity

There are many signs that you have a raccoon inhabiting your property. This list includes tracks, scratches on trees, droppings, and looted trash cans. Raccoons are nocturnal creatures, so your best chance of spotting one is at night. Although these animals are usually harmless and skittish, you never want to approach one. In most cases, raccoons will run at the sight of a human person.

How To Address Your Racoon Problem

There are two major reasons why raccoons could be entering your property. The first one being that you have some form of food source. Many people do not realize that raccoons are omnivores and are not picky when it comes to food. They have been known to munch on just about anything found in a trash can. For this reason, always make sure that your trash can lids are secured tightly. The second major reason why a raccoon may be entering your property is that they found a place to shelter. If you have realized that you have a raccoon living under your deck or shed, you want to first close off all possible entry points. Just be sure the area is raccoon-free before doing so. If raccoons are continuously raiding your garden, the best thing you can do is to install a sturdy fence around it.
