Fall is finally upon us! The temperature has begun to drop, which means pretty soon there’s going to several unwanted critters trying to find their way into your home. Whether it’s mice, squirrels, or bats, there are all sorts of ways these small animals can find their way inside. Here are four common entry points you want to be on the lookout for this fall!
Soffits
For those that do not know, soffits are the weak points on the exterior of a house. In most cases, they are constructed with flimsy materials. If there is a gap or a hole in a soffit, an animal may be able to use it as an entry point into your home. For some homes, soffits are used for to create airflow into the roof or attic. If this is the case for your home, cover up all holes with a screen and it should stop animals in their tracks.
Trees That Hang Over
Do you have trees on your property that are near your house? You need to be wary of any overhanging branches because they can serve as bridges for animals like raccoons and squirrels to get onto your roof. Once they achieve this feat, the animal has access to things like your chimney and any soffits.
Roof Corners
If you have an animal problem, you will want to be sure to check the roof corners of your home. In many cases, they are the root of your animal problem. Any gap between your roof’s shingles can serve as excellent entry points into your home.
Front Doors and Pet Doors
Believe it or not, there are some animals that will take advantage of the doors of your home! With that said, you want to keep your entry doors closed at all times. This is especially important at night when some animals are looking for ways to sneak inside your home. Also, if you have a pet door, you will want to be concerned about this possible entry point as well. It is important to point out that mice have been known to take advantage of doggy doors!
